Snow peas:

Snow peas, also known as Chinese pea pods, have flat edible pods. These are very tiny and can be eaten raw or cooked. They have the longest days to maturity of all the peas.

Snow peas are used a lot in Chinese cuisine. Snow peas have almost flat shell with no distinct pea shape inside, so you can easily recognize them.

Snow peas come in several varieties:

  • Gray sugar:

Gray sugar peas are traditional snow peas that mature in 65 days. The plant of gray sugar peas reaches 18 inches tall, and tender pods are average 3 inches long. They have a moderately sweet taste.

  • Snowbird:

The next snow pea is the snowbird, which takes 60 days to get ready. They have a moderately sweet taste. The plant reaches 18 inches long, and pods average 3 inches long.

  • Sugar daddy:

Sugar daddy is the variety of peas that gets ready in 65 days. It is a traditional snow pea that has a moderately sweet taste. The plant is 18 inches tall, and tender pods are average 3 inches long.

  • Avalanche:

It takes 60 days to get ready and has a sweet tender taste. The plant reaches 3 feet tall, and it produces huge dark green pods that reach 6 inches long. It is a prolific producer and disease resistant.

  • Oregon Sugar Pods:

The next in the list is Oregon Sugar Pods, which is a prolific producer and takes 70 days to mature. It has a sweet and tender taste. The plant reaches 2 ½ feet tall while as the pods reach average 4 ½ inches long.

  • Oregon Sugar Pod #2:

It is also a prolific producer and disease resistant. It takes 70 days to ready and has a very sweet and tender taste. The plant reaches 2 ½ feet tall, and the pods average 4 inches long. It usually has two pods per group.

Garden peas:

Garden peas are the traditional varieties of peas. Since the pods produced on these plants are inedible, you need to remove peas from pods before eating.

The garden pea has many cultivars, including:

  • Spring peas:

  • Thomas Laxton:

Thomas Laxton takes 60 days to ready. The peas are about 4 inches long and have 8-9 dark green, plump peas. The vines reach 3 feet tall, and the peas have a moderately sweet taste.

  • Maestro:

They take 60 days to ready and produce a high yield. The dark green pods are average 4 ½ inches long, and the peas have a moderately sweet taste. Each pod contains average 10-11 medium-sized peas. As a matter of fact, it is a good Variety to harvest in the fall.

  • Big:

They produce extra-large peas with 9-10 seeds in the dark green pods. The plant is 4 feet tall, and the peas have a moderately sweet taste. This is a prize-winning cultivar and takes 60 days to ready.

  • Lincoln:

This Variety has a good heat tolerance and has a sweet and tender taste. This variety takes 70 days to ready and produces pods with average 7-8 large peas each. The plant is 2-3 feet tall.

  • Misty shell:

The next pea variety in the list is a misty shell that takes 60 days to ready and is disease resistant. Each pod contains 7-8 sweet and plump peas. The pods are three inches long. Misty shell is a high yield variety.

  • Little marvel:

This cultivar takes 65 days to ready and produces 3 inches long pea pods. There are 7-8 seeds in each pod. The peas are medium-sized, tender, and sweet. The plant is 2 feet tall.

  • Early perfection:

It produces crescent-shaped pods with 8-9 tender peas each. The peas are medium-sized and sweet. This cultivar is a prolific producer and takes 65 days to ready.

Snap peas:

They have edible pods which are plump and rounded. They are sweet in taste, and you can eat them any way you want to.

  • Sugar snaps:

It is a classic snap pea variety and is a prolific producer. The pods are 3 inches long and very sweet. The vines of this prize-winning variety are 6 feet tall.

  • Sugar bon:

It takes 55 days to ready and is disease resistance. The pods reach 3 inches long, and the plant is 2 feet tall. The taste of the peas is very sweet.

  • Super snappy:

Super snappy is the variety of peas that takes 65 days to ready and produces very large pods. Each pod contains an average of nine peas, and the taste is extra sweet and crisp.   • Sugar Ann:

The next variety on our list is sugar Ann which takes 55 days to get mature. It is disease resistant and produces pods containing average seven peas each. The taste of the peas is sweet and crisp.

  • Super Sugar Snap VP:

It produces peas that are sweeter than the original sugar snap variety. It is a disease-resistant and prolific producer. It takes 65 days to ready, and the plants are 5 to 6 feet tall. The pods are average 3 inches tall.
